The HS-Series carries a part number stamped on the underside of the lid - HS-8, HS-10, HS-13 - matching nominal flue tile inside diameter in inches. Pro-Form caps have a laser-etched batch code on the base rail; the last four digits indicate the base dimension.

Here’s where Worcester owners get tripped up. HeatShield’s HS-10 fits a 10-inch flue tile, but many Main South triple-deckers built 1910 to 1940 have 9.5-inch nominal tiles that were hand-cut on site. Signs Your HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing

• Lid tilts or rotates after wind. The base band has corroded through at the seam or the set-screws have backed out. On HS-Series caps, the 430 stainless band rusts from the inside out where creosote vapors condense - we see this most on north-facing flues in Worcester’s heavier snow-load winters.
• Mesh screen sags or has holes. The 18-gauge stainless mesh is rated for 1,200°F, but direct flame impingement from a chimney fire will anneal it soft.
